When using a water pump, it is often encountered due to improper selection or changes in the actual environment. When the water pump head is too high, what measures can generally be taken?


1) If machining conditions permit, the pump impeller can be removed and its outer diameter can be reduced to meet the required specifications. The reduced diameter can be calculated using the following formula:
Impeller diameter after reduction = (Required head / Raw water pump head) square root × Raw water pump impeller diameter
If the required head is uncertain, perform several test runs until the required head is achieved.
2) A gate valve or stop valve can be installed in the outlet pipe to control the pump's operating head and achieve normal operation.
3) For pulley drives, the pulley size can be changed to reduce the pump speed and thus the head.
4) Variable frequency control can be added to reduce the output speed and thus the head.

During routine production, various problems may arise. We must carefully review the on-site operating conditions and various parameters, striving to find the most effective and practical solutions.

What are the problems if the water pump runs dry without water?


For submersible pumps, constant attention should be paid to checking the water level during operation. Never operate the pump above the surface of the water. If the pump becomes dehydrated during operation, the following will occur:
1) Some of the heat generated by the pump cannot be dissipated by the water and must rely on the pump's own cooling system, directly causing the motor to heat up and burn out;
2) Dry friction between the pump impeller ring and the pump body can easily cause the impeller and pump body to sinter and seize, increasing the motor's power consumption and potentially burning out the motor;
3) Increased wear on the pump's mechanical seals and bearings (for water-filled submersible pumps) will shorten the pump's service life. Therefore, it is strictly forbidden to operate the pump dehydrated during operation and the pump should be regularly inspected for dehydration.

Why does the actual power used by a water pump sometimes exceed the rated power?


Because the water pump is not selected properly, for example, if the pump head of a centrifugal pump is much higher than the actual use head, when the water pump is actually running, the lower the head, the greater the flow rate and the greater the power, which is easy to burn the motor. Therefore, it is very important for users to select the right pump model when buying it.

What should I do if the motor overheats?


The main reasons are that the pump impeller is stuck, the grid voltage is too low or the pump is used beyond the head range, which causes excessive current or abnormal temperature rise of the motor. If no measures are taken, the motor will be burned.

What are the consequences of the water pump running in a missing phase?


Water pumps come in both single-phase and three-phase options. Simply put, single-phase pumps are suitable for 220V household voltage, while three-phase pumps are suitable for 380V industrial voltage. If a three-phase pump (motor) is operated with a missing phase, the motor draws the most current, causing the motor to heat up and potentially burn out. Therefore, operating with a missing phase is strictly prohibited.
